What we are, and are not.

Tohu Labs is a creation institution. We transform raw possibility into clarity, structure, and creation – through our own ventures and artifacts, and through a select few builders we choose to build alongside. We work before form, where value is created, and we own the whole arc from potential to stewardship.

We are

  • A creation institution, working at the earliest stage.
  • Owners of real, defensible IP across domains.
  • Selective by design – attention, not ideas, is scarce.
  • Stewards of what we create, not authors who walk away.

We are not

  • An agency, a consultancy, or a design studio.
  • An outsourced innovation team or an accelerator.
  • A fund. We do not sell services and are not for hire.
  • A place that ships once and leaves.

Approach

The Creation Model, in practice.

Every venture moves through the same passage. We begin in tohu – the undefined state, full of signals and questions. We look for light: the insight that tells us what is genuinely worth pursuing, knowing that not every idea deserves creation.

Then comes separation, the decisive stage – distinguishing signal from distraction, need from desire, opportunity from illusion. Most ventures are won or lost here. What survives separation earns formation: research, systems, technology, design, and architecture give the idea shape.

Formation becomes creation – products, patents, ventures, platforms, experiences entering reality. And creation is not the end. What we make, we steward, because living systems require care and must keep evolving.

Who we work with

A select few.

A small number of builders each year build their ventures inside the lab, chosen for originality and conviction. We work with few so we can work deeply. These are the qualities we look for.

    It does not already exist, or exists badly.
  • Conviction
    The builder has thought longer and harder than anyone.
  • Defensibility
    There is something real to own and protect.
  • Scale
    It can matter to the world, not just to a market.

    We work with a limited number of ventures – not because ideas are rare, but because attention is. Most applications will not move forward. This is intentional, not arrogant.

    Every proposal is read and considered against what we look for. The few that move forward enter a closer conversation. The scarce resource we protect is not capital or ideas; it is the depth of attention we can give to each venture we take on. Holding that line is what keeps the work serious.

    Is this an accelerator?
    No. We do not run cohorts, demo days, or a fixed program. We work with a few builders at a time and own the whole arc of creation alongside them, from potential to stewardship.
    Do you take outside projects or work for hire?
    No. Tohu Labs is not an agency, a consultancy, or a studio. We do not sell services. We selectively participate in creation, on terms that let us own and steward what we help build.
    Do you build or invest?
    We build. We originate technology and artifacts from first principles, and we build alongside a select few builders. Where we participate in a venture, we do so as a creator and steward, not as a passive holder.
    How are ventures selected?
    By originality, conviction, defensibility, and scale. Proposals are read and reviewed; a small number move into a closer conversation. Most do not move forward, which is the point.
    What happens to the IP?
    If it is real, we protect it. We hold and compound defensible IP across domains, and we keep evolving what we create rather than shipping once and leaving.
